BURWELL, UK: The European Nursery Stock Association (ENA) today announced the appointment of Nikos Thymakis (pictured left) from Greece as the organisation’s new press and communications officer.
In his role he will provide press liaison services for the organisation, dealing with enquiries from the media and issuing press releases on pertinent issues. He will also provide administrative support to ENA’s president, Maurizio Lapponi.
Born in 1971 inAthens, Nikos is a graduate of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), the class of Territorial Improvements and Agricultural Mechanics.
Nikos brings to ENA a wealth of experience in the communications field. He loves gardening and supporting the professional horticulture business. He loves writing and broadcasting about it in any medium. He writes for gardening magazines Kipotechnia, Garden and Flower Business, Oiko, Golden Flower, Ola Gia Ton Kipo (Everything about Gardening) and had his own TV programme in Greece (Gardening for All).
Being a ‘walking encyclopedia on palm trees’, he was one of the founders of the non for profit organisation the Greek Palm Society and is a strong advocate of growing the native palm Phoenix theophrasti. Nikos has been also involved in setting up garden shows and helped building the Greek pavilion at Floriade, the Netherlands.
Most recently he coordinated the Greek cooperative booth at the IPM Essen where 26 ornamental plant growers presented their products and services. They are members of the Hellenic Plant Material Exporters Association (HEPMEA) , which represents nursery stock growers across the country.
ENA is an organisation representing nursery stock producers’ organizations across Europe. Considering the need for closer economic, social and cultural cooperation at European level; conscious of their responsibility towards the nursery stock profession and mindful to obtain and further the health and prosperity of the nursery stock industry, European organisations representing nursery stock producers have teamed up under the ENA flag.
In its 22 years of existence ENA has proved that cooperation between members is far better in achieving mutual benefits. ENA has currently members in eighteen countries: the Netherlands, Germany ,Ireland, the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Hungary and Spain.
