Throughout continents, a growing number of connoisseurs and food lovers are taking an interest in the complex and fascinating world of EVOOs. These new consumers search for more specific information, follow with strong interest the results of contests and read EVOO guides, precisely in order to guide choices and consumption.

To meet these new demands, the contest management is preparing an Awards Ceremony for June 30 that celebrates the producers and their achievements, giving luster to those who have worked passionately in the olive groves for a whole year, while at the same time bringing producers and consumers together.
Guests of honor the producers, even if from this year the event will also be attended by consumers and enthusiasts from the whole world.
The venue chosen for this celebration is the Villa Comunale of Palmi, which the English writer Edward Lear in his Diary of a Journey on Foot described as "one of the sights for which the few travelers who pass from Reggio to Naples by land are wont to give enthusiastic praise”. Starting at 5:30 p.m. (CEST), in addition to the celebration of the winners of the eighth edition of EVO IOOC Italy and the awarding of the coveted trophies and medals, a series of events open to the public, will take place, culminating in guided tasting sessions, designed specifically for those who want to learn about the world's extra virgin olive oil excellence.
Among these paths are the masterclasses "DegustaMondo" and "DegustaCalabria," conducted by the international judges of EVO IOOC Italy 2023 and with the participation of competition president Dr Antonio G. Lauro, whom we ask to tell us about the hidden face of the eighth edition of the contest.
"A long trail made by the scents of the EVOO, between fragrant sensations and pleasant flavors, this is what remains after the four intense days of tasting that decreed the best EVOOs and Flavoured in the world," Lauro begins. "All 24 International Judges were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the competing products and by the biting beauty of this unusual Calabria, which hosted and pampered them during the World EVOOs Week. Each of them," President Lauro concludes, "brings back with them a little piece of Calabria, made of smells - certainly - faces, places and flavors”.
As already revealed on the contest website, there were 694 products in the competition, with 623 Extra Virgin Olive Oils and 71 Flavoured EVOOs, submitted by 30 nations and from as many as 26 different producing countries.
Only one piece is missing to the conclusion of the competition, namely unveiling the "Best of Show" of this eighth edition of EVO IOOC Italy.
To seal an olive oil year that was not very generous, marked by excellent productions, the two Best International and seven Best in Class of the competition will be discovered and the EVOOs that the jury awarded special prizes will be known.
The appointment is set for June 30 in Palmi; for those who will not be able to follow "live" the final stages of the competition, the organizers have guaranteed international coverage of the event, through live social broadcasts on the competition's Facebook and Instagram pages.
